Your key responsibilities:

Risk Management Strategy and Policy

  • Develop, update, and submit for Supervisory Board approval the Risk Management Strategy, Risk Appetite Statement, and Risk Management Policy, including risk limits
  • Establish and maintain the company’s Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) framework as the second line of defense
  • Coordinate the implementation of a risk-based approach within the internal control system, ensuring risk identification, assessment, and monitoring, and providing recommendations to enhance the effectiveness of controls and risk management practices

Risk Identification, Assessment, and Monitoring

  • Identify and assess risks using both quantitative and qualitative methodologies, including insurance (underwriting), market, liquidity, operational, and reputational risks
  • Conduct stress testing, scenario analysis, and capital adequacy assessments considering the company’s risk profile
  • Monitor compliance with approved risk appetite and risk limits; escalate breaches, material deviations, and significant risk events

Reporting and Governance

  • Prepare regular risk management reports for the Management Board, Risk Committee, and Supervisory Board
  • Participate in Management Board and Supervisory Board meetings on matters related to the company’s risk management framework
  • Review new products, underwriting policies, and investment strategies from a risk management perspective

Regulatory and Cross-Functional Cooperation

  • Liaise with the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) on risk management matters, support supervisory reviews, and coordinate responses to regulatory requests
  • Collaborate with Compliance, Internal Audit, and the Appointed Actuary to ensure alignment of governance, risk management, and internal control systems
  • Promote a strong risk culture across the organization and deliver risk management awareness initiatives and training


What is important for this role:

  • Higher education in Economics, Finance, Mathematics, Actuarial Science, or a related field
  • At least 5 years of experience in risk management, insurance, or financial services, including leadership responsibilities
  • Proven experience in developing, implementing, or enhancing risk management frameworks
  • In-depth knowledge of Ukrainian insurance legislation and National Bank of Ukraine requirements for insurers' risk management systems
  • Hands-on experience with quantitative and qualitative risk assessment methodologies
  • Strong analytical, strategic thinking, and leadership skills
  • English proficiency sufficient to work with international standards, professional documentation, and communicate with UNIQA Group colleagues
  • Impeccable business reputation and eligibility to meet NBU fit-and-proper requirements for key persons of an insurance company, including potential regulatory assessment and/or interview

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience within an international insurance or financial services group
  • Practical experience working with the National Bank of Ukraine
  • Knowledge of international frameworks and standards, including Solvency II and IFRS 17
  • Understanding of actuarial methodologies, technical reserve calculations, and insurance capital management
